Women's tennis falls at Chapman, 6-3

ORANGE, Calif. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team took a 6-3 loss on Sunday to No. 32 Chapman University in the team's first match of its spring break trip to California.

The Sea Gulls (5-2) took the early lead with two points through doubles play, but dropped five of the singles matches.

Sophomore Claudia Lohn and freshman Charlotte Walker picked up an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles, while senior Allison Lutz and freshman Megan Soderlund won, 8-6, at No. 3 doubles. Senior Katie Youlios and junior Natalie Savage dropped a narrow 8-6 decision at the top spot in doubles as the Gulls led 2-1.

Savage won at the No. 1 singles position, 6-3, 6-3, for the Sea Gulls' only singles point, while Lohn won six games, falling 6-2, 6-4, at No.3.

Soderlund, Lutz, and Walker all took five games in their matches, as Soderlund lost, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 4, Lutz lost 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 and Walker took a 6-2, 6-3 defeat at No. 6. Youlios was defeated 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 as the Panthers (2-4) earned the win.

The Gulls head to Occidental College on Monday, March 16, taking on the Tigers in a match scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., eastern time.
