Women's tennis falls at Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team took its first Capital Athletic Conference loss of the season, falling at No. 20 the University of Mary Washington, 9-0, on Wednesday.

The Eagles (12-6, 5-0 CAC) took the three doubles matches to get things started. Salisbury's No. 3 pair of senior Allison Lutz and freshman Megan Soderlund battled to an 8-5 loss, while sophomore Claudia Lohn and freshman Charlotte Walker suffered an 8-3 defeat at No. 2. Senior Katie Youlios and junior Natalie Savage fell at the No. 1 spot, 8-1.

Salisbury (11-5, 4-1 CAC) dropped the six singles matches with Walker putting up a strong fight in the No. 6 match against Hannah Jabusch. Jabusch took the first set 6-3, and Walker would force a tie-breaker in the second set, dropping the breaker, 7-4.

Savage, at No. 1 singles, played the next closest match, falling to Shelby Harris, 6-3, 6-4, while Youlios, at No. 2, lost in her first set, 6-1, and nearly pushed the match to a third set, but dropped the second, 6-4.

Lohn at No. 3, Soderlund at No. 4, and Lutz at No. 5, each dropped their matches in straight sets.

The Sea Gulls return to CAC action this Saturday, April 11 as they travel to St. Mary's College of Maryland for an 11 a.m., start.
