Women's tennis cruises to 8-1 win in west coast finale

WHITTIER, Calif. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team earned an 8-1 victory in the squad's final match of its spring break trip to California, topping Whittier College on Thursday.

The Sea Gulls (9-2) opened the day by sweeping the three doubles matches with senior Megan Knapp and freshman Taylor Cooper grabbing an 8-1 win at No. 3. Junior Claudia Lohn and sophomore Megan Soderlund were close behind, taking an 8-2 win at No. 2. Seniors Natalie Savage and junior Zoe Moffat had the toughest doubles contest, coming up with an 8-6 win at No. 1.

In singles play, Cooper earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5, while Moffat gave up just two games at No. 2, to collect a 6-0, 6-2 win. Soderlund dropped just four games, claiming a 6-4, 6-0 win, at No. 4 and Savage won in a battle 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1.

Salisbury claimed its final point of the day from the Poets (1-7) at No. 6 with Knapp getting the win by default. Whittier's only point of the match came at No. 3 singles, where Lohn suffered a 6-2, 6-2 defeat.

The Sea Gulls now return home, where they will be back in action next Thursday, March 24, hosting No. 18 University of Mary Washington in a Capital athletic Confenrece match at the SU Tennis Courts, beginning at 4 p.m.
