Women's tennis drops CAC tournament semifinal match at Christopher Newport

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team saw its 2016 campaign come to a close in a Capital Athletic Conference tournament semifinal match in a 5-0 loss at No. 32 Christopher Newport University on Tuesday afternoon.

The third-seeded Sea Gulls dropped the three doubles matches, but not without putting pressure on the second-seeded Captains. At No. 2 doubles, junior Claudia Lohn and sophomore Megan Soderlund had the closest match, falling 9-7 to Christopher Newport's Katie Carlson and Kate Huck.

Senior Megan Knapp and freshman Taylor Cooper dropped an 8-3 decision at No. 3 doubles and the top doubles spot went in the Captains' favor as McKinney Harwood and Alexandra Drye topped senior Natalie Savage and junior Zoe Moffat, 8-2.

Playing to a decision for the match, the Captains claimed the final two points needed in the first two singles matches to finish with Drye topping Cooper at No. 5 by a 6-0, 6-2 score and Meili Konell earning a 6-2, 6-1 win against Knapp at No. 6.

The first set had been completed in the other four singles matches as the contest was completed. Christopher Newport led in three, but Moffat had taken the first set at No. 2 singles, 6-1, and led the second 1-0 against Carlson.
