Sea Gulls fall at No. 15 Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team suffered a 9-0 loss in its first Capital Athletic Conference match of the season, falling at No. 15 University of Mary Washington on Sunday.

The Sea Gulls picked up six games in doubles play, with senior Claudia Lohn and sophomore Taylor Cooper falling 8-3 at No. 2 doubles, while freshman Jordan Schaefer and junior Sage Cole dropped an 8-2 decision at No. 3 and freshmen Annika Kezman and Julia Kwedi suffered an 8-1 loss at No. 1.

In singles play Kwedi took her No. 2 match to three sets, dropping the first 6-2 before drawing even with a 6-1 win in the second set. As the team match had been decided, she and Taylor Diffley played a match tie-breaker, which Diffley narrowly won, 10-8.

Lohn won four games in a 6-1, 6-3 loss at No. 3 singles while Cole took a 6-2, 6-1 loss at No. 5. Cooper at No. 4, and Schaefer at No. 6, were each defeated 6-2, 6-0 and the final point for the Eagles (4-0) came at No. 1 where Kezman fell 6-1, 6-1.

The Sea Gulls (0-3) play at home for the first time next weekend, beginning with a match on Friday, February 24 against Catholic University of America.
