Men's lacrosse takes 25-3 home decision over Marymount

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. – The top-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team hosted Capital Athletic Conference opponent Marymount (Va.) University on Wednesday night and controlled the game throughout en route to a 25-3 win.

The Gulls (8-0, 3-0 CAC) struck early and often to put the visitors out of reach. By halftime the team had amounted a 14-0 lead and had outshot the Saints (2-7, 0-3 CAC) 37-4.

Nick Garbarino got the first tally of the game just under three minutes in after classmate Nathan Blondino found him off the crease. Garbarino ended his day with two goals and two assists, while Blondino continued his offensive outburst as of late with six points off two goals and four assists.

The first quarter's scoring ended with a Kevin McDermott marker with one second on the clock to have Salisbury up 6-0. McDermott ended his evening with two goals.

Adam Huber opened up the second quarter scoring with one of his three goals in the win before some of the defensive-minded Gulls got in on the action. The team's ninth and tenth goals came from long-stick midfielder Andrew Ternahan and defensive midfielder Jeremiah LaClair, respectively. Huber ended with his top day so far in the maroon and gold with five points as he also contributed a pair of helpers.

Up 14-0 headed into the second half, Carson Kalama ignited in the third with three of the team's six goals in the penultimate quarter. Kalama's last of the quarter was one of the team's seven man up goals in the conference win and came off a feed from Brendan Bromwell. Bromwell racked up one goal and four assists for the second-straight game and Kalama notched five goals for the second-straight game.

The first Marymount goal came with 6:02 left in the third to make the score 18-1 and the visitors also added goals at 5:25 and 3:59 in the fourth.

Garrett Reynolds ended the third quarter scoring with his second of the day with 40 seconds showing on the clock to go up 20-1. Nick Durtschi put home two goals in the fourth as Salisbury had the lead more than secured, the two goals are the first for Durtschi during his time at Salisbury.

Corey Gwin, Pierre Armstrong, Amir Fluellen, and Kevin Bartenfelter also scored for Salisbury to have 14 Gulls strike in the win. The goal for Fluellen was his first collegiate score.

Will Nowesnick was the team's defensive standout despite having not many opportunities with the ball in the Salisbury defensive zone. The junior All-American nabbed seven groundballs and four caused turnovers.

The tandem of Duncan Campbell and T.J. Logue went 17-for-28 from the faceoff X as Salisbury maintained the possession the majority of the contest.

The Sea Gulls outshot the Saints 62-16 and scooped up 46 groundballs to their 31. The Salisbury man-up unit clicked on seven of their nine chances while the Salisbury man-down unit held the Saints to a 0-for-4 outing with an extra man.

The Gulls will return to action on Saturday, March 25 with a road game against Southern Virginia University. That game is set for 1 p.m.
