WHITTIER, Calif. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team closed out its spring trip to California with a convincing 9-0 win at Whittier College on Thursday.

The Sea Gulls earned the first three points in doubles play with two lopsided wins. Junior Sage Cole and sophomore Taylor Cooper rolled to an 8-0 win at No. 3 and senior Claudia Lohn and freshman Jordan Schaefer picked up an 8-1 win at No. 2. The hardest-fought early point came at No. 1 where freshmen Julia Kwedi and Annika Kezman came up with a 9-7 win.

In singles play, the Sea Gulls (4-5) won five points in straight sets, with sophomore Shannon Hickman winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6. In the other straight-set victories, none of the Poets (0-9) competitors were able to score more than three games. Kwedi was a 6-0, 6-3 winner at No. 2, Lohn won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 while Cooper collected a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4 and Schaefer claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5.

The toughest battle in singles again came at the top of the lineup where Kezman outlasted Amanda Rodriguez in three sets 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-2.

The Sea Gulls return to the East Coast for a Capital Athletic Conference match next Saturday, April 1, when they head to St. Mary's College of Maryland. That conference tilt is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
