SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 10 Salisbury University women's lacrosse team hosted Capital Athletic Conference foe Southern Virginia University Saturday afternoon, defeating the Knights, 18-1.

Salisbury senior midfielder Gabbi Nieves set the tone early for the Sea Gulls (7-2, 3-0 CAC) in the opening minute after she buried her first of two goials on the day past Southern Virginia goalkeeper Madelyn Krauss, giving Salisbury the early 1-0 lead.

A scant two minutes later, Dana King notched her first of two goals on the afternoon after converting a threaded pass from sophomore Gabrielle Mongno to extend the Gulls' lead to two in the game's opening three minutes. 

Following King's goal, Salisbury's offense did not let up as five different Sea Gulls tallied to increase Salisbury's lead to seven, before freshmen Gianna Demato notched her first career mark for the maroon and gold, extending the lead to eight with just over 10 minutes left in the half.

Less than a minute later, junior attacker Madelyn Manzoni collected her first of three assists of the contest after sending a perfect pass to freshman Abigail Single, who notched her only goal of the contest following a beautiful spin move to increase Salisbury's lead to 9-0.

With time winding down in the first half, freshman Taylor Poore collected her first of three points on the day after linking up with a cutting Emma Wall for her first goal of the season.

After the Knights (3-7, 0-3 CAC) got their only goal of the day, Poore collected her second point on the contest and first career goal for the Sea Gulls as she slotted home her free position attempt past Krauss to extend the lead to 10 just before the break.

At the half, the Sea Gull defensive unit displayed a commanding 30 minutes of play allowing only five shots, winning nine draw controls and were perfect on clears going 5-for-5. Salisbury outshot the Knights 19-5 in the first as freshman Skye Graham collected four saves in the half.

Salisbury continued their offensive prowess into the second half as Poore collected her third point of the contest, finding freshman Hannah Clingan for her first career goal for the Gulls in the half's opening five minutes.

The following 13 minutes of play saw two more freshman open their accounts for the maroon and gold as Emily McQuay and Holly Bowers both notched unassisted attempts, extending Salisbury's lead to 16-1.

As time wound down in the second, Manzoni scored her third point of the contest after finding a cutting Morgon Von Schmidt for her first mark of the season.

The Sea Gulls extended their lead to 17 with less than five seconds on the clock as Ryan Schrader slotted her solo attempt past Torres-Lopez to leave the final score at 18-1.

The Salisbury defense continued its first half dominance into the second as they allowed no shots on goal, scooped up five ground balls, earned 14-of-18 draw controls and were perfect for clears on the day going 6-for-6.

The Gulls outshot the Knights 29-5 on the day, with Graham earning the victory and notching four saves for her efforts.

Salisbury returns to action tomorrow, Sunday, March 26, as they travel to Lancaster, Pennsylvania to take on Franklin & Marshall College. The game is set to begin at 2 p.m.
