NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team fell in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament semifinals at No. 23 Christopher Newport University on Wednesday afternoon, 5-0.

The second-seeded Captains claimed three points in doubles play, but not without a battle at the No. 2 spot from senior Claudia Lohn and freshman Jordan Schaefer. Lohn and Schaefer took Kate Huck and Johanna Ranta-aho to a tie-breaker, but the Christopher Newport pair was able to claim the point 9-8 (7-4).

The Captains (14-6) got the other two doubles points with an 8-4 win at No. 1 over freshmen Annika Kezman and Julia Kwedi, and at No. 3 where junior Sage Cole and Taylor Cooper lost 8-2.

Christopher Newport picked up the final two points in the first two singles matches to finish. Kezman's No. 1 match was the first to end, falling 6-0, 6-2 before sophomore Shannon Hickman dropped a 6-1, 6-2 match at No. 6.

Salisbury (10-7) was just shy of earning a point at No. 2 singles and seeing No. 4 possibly go to a third set when the team match was settled. Kwedi led at No. 2 by a 6-1, 5-2 score and after dropping the opening set 6-0 at No. 4, Cooper's second set was tied at 5-5.

Schaefer just missed on her first set at No. 5, falling 7-5, and trailed 2-0 in the second.
