Swim teams fall to powerhouse Mary Washington

SALISBURY, Md. – The men's and women's swimming teams of Salisbury University returned to action on Saturday afternoon when they played host to visiting Capital Athletic Conference rival the University of Mary Washington. The men's team fell to the Eagles 72-133, while the women's team lost its matchup 47-158.

Men

Josh Brown and Richard Baker each recorded first-place finishes for the men's team. Brown won the 200-meter individual medley with a time of 2:16.92. Baker earned his first-place finish in the 100-meter backstroke, recording a time of 1:02.06. Baker also finished second in the 200-meter freestyle, with a time of 2:03.44.

Peter Moyer had a solid afternoon, earning two second-place finishes. The first came in the 800-meter freestyle, with a time of 9:14.29. Moyer followed it up with a second-place time of 55.81 seconds in the 100-meter freestyle.

Andrew Ward also earned a second-place finish in the 50-meter freestyle, with a time of 25.64 seconds.

Jake Ryan, Baker, Moyer, and Brown combined to earn a first-place finish in the final event of the afternoon—the 200-meter freestyle relay—with a time of 1:39.96.

Women

Angela Barzanti helped lead the women's team by earning a second-place finish in the 400-meter freestyle, with a time of 5:08.18. Barzanti also finished in third place in the 800-meter freestyle, with a time of 10:41.58.

Emma Tarnosky had a similar day, finishing in second place in the 100-meter backstroke, with a time of 1:11.33. Tarnosky also captured a third-place finish in the 50-meter freestyle, with a time of 30.13 seconds.

Olivia Edsall contributed with a third-place finish in the 100-meter breaststroke, recording a time of 1:25.58.

Maddie Snow, Briya Cohen, Shannon Mesmer, and Ali Johnston combined to earn a second-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle relay event, with a time of 2:07.55.

Jordyn Rowe, Snow, Tarnosky, and Barzanti combined to earn a third-place finish in the 200-meter medley relay, recording a time of 2:20.39.

The teams will return to action next Saturday, January 20 when they host CAC rival Marymount (Va.) University. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
