Women's tennis rolls to 9-0 win against Bridgewater

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory on Sunday over Bridgewater (Va.) College at the SU Tennis Courts.

The three doubles teams opened the match by sweeping the first three points with sophomore Jordan Schaefer and freshman Sydney Soto collecting an 8-3 win at No. 3 while senior Sage Cole and junior Taylor Cooper went for an 8-4 win at No. 3 and sophomores Annika Kezman and Julia Kwedi finished the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win at No. 1.

The Sea Gulls (3-1) combined to allow Bridgewater just 14 games in singles play, with six straight-set wins. Cooper, at No. 3, and Schaefer, at No. 5, each won by 6-1, 6-0 scores with Kwedi winning 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

Soto was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 4 with junior Shannon Hickman collecting a 6-2, 6-1 victory while Kezman won at No. 1 by a 6-2, 6-2 score.

The Sea Gulls will be back in action at home next weekend, hosting Stevenson University on Saturday, March 3 beginning at noon, and beginning Capital Athletic Conference play hosting Frostburg State University on Sunday, March 4, at 11 a.m.
