Salisbury cruises to 20-1 win over Southern Virginia

SALISBURY, Md – The third ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team rolled to a 20-1 win over visiting Southern Virginia University in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday.

Salisbury (11-0, 3-0 CAC) scored 10 goals in each half while holding Southern Virginia (4-6, 0-3 CAC) to just one goal on four shots on net. Fourteen different players scored for the Sea Gulls, led by a hat trick from Brianna Held.

The Sea Gulls scored the first 10 goals of the game, all coming from different players in the first half. Salisbury outshot the Knights 20-3 in the first half and 37-7 in the game.

Southern Virginia scored the opening goal of the second half, but Salisbury responded by scoring the next 10 while keeping the Knights off the board the rest of the way.

Held scored two of her three goals in the second half, with one of the goals coming off a feed from Julie Talbert and the other from Taylor Poore. Talbert had a team-high three assists on the day to go along with one goal.

Lindsey Wagner tied Talbert with a team-high four points on two goals and two assists. Abby Single, Lydia McNulty, and Gianna Demato joined Wagner by each tallying two goals in the game. Single scored the final two markers of the game for Salisbury, both coming on assists from Alexis Strobel.

The Salisbury defense had yet another strong showing, causing 12 turnovers and forcing the Knights into 18 total turnovers. Martha Hutzell led the defense with two caused turnovers and two groundballs while coming up with three draw controls.

Salisbury is back in action on Wednesday, April 4 against Christopher Newport University. First draw is scheduled for 5 p.m.
