Salisbury offense explodes, downs Kenyon 20-2

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. – The eighth ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team got back in the win column on Wednesday afternoon with a convincing, 20-2, victory over visiting Kenyon College.

The scoring was balanced for the Sea Gulls (4-2) throughout the victory, with 11 different players finding the back of the cage.

Salisbury scored the game's first 11 goals, putting home six tallies in the first 15 minutes of play, scored by six different players. The lead was 1-0 following Josh Melton's unassisted marker less than five minutes into the game, but the lead remained one until the 7:07 mark when Tyler Snyder scored his first of the day, opening the flood gates.

Emory Wongus, Corey Gwin, Griffin Moroney, and Austin Short added first quarter goals, with Short's score hitting the twine with just 19 seconds showing on the clock.

Short and Wongus each finished with a team-high and career-high three goals, marking the first hat tricks of their Salisbury careers. Moroney was one of the five players to finish with two goals each in the game.

Snyder scored the first goal of the second quarter, off an assist from Melton, on a man-up chance. Salisbury scored five times in the quarter bookended by man-up goals, with Melton's final tally of the day capping the first half scoring with the Sea Gulls holding an 11-0 lead at the break.

The first goal of the day for the Lords (3-2) was a man-up goal 39 seconds into the second half from Josh Galardi.

Salisbury answered with nine-straight scores of its own, finding the net seven times in the third quarter, marking the third time the Gulls have accomplished that feat this season. Eight different Salisbury players netted goals during the scoring run, including Ryan Brown and Nick Durtschi, who netted their first markers of the season.

Brandon Warren needed to make just three saves to earn the win in goal for the Sea Gulls, playing just over 40 minutes between the pipes. The defense in front of Warren allowed only 19 shots by the Lords (0-4), seven of which just were on goal.

Cory Berry and Will Nowesnick led the way on the defensive charge, each causing two turnovers. Berry also picked up four groundballs while Nowesnick scooped up three.

Four different goalkeepers saw time for the Sea Gulls with Chandler Dabbs recording two saves in just under 12 minutes in goal, while Hayden Donnelly and Kyle O'Neil combined for just over seven minutes to round out the contest.

Salisbury returns to action on Saturday, March 10 when it hosts Stevenson University. Face-off between the Sea Gulls and Mustangs is set for 1 p.m.
