Women's tennis earns 8-1 win at Franklin & Marshall

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team battled to an 8-1 win at Franklin & Marshall College on Friday afternoon.

The teams split the three doubles points, with Salisbury (6-1) winning at the top two spots. Sophomores Annika Kezman and Julia Kwedi earned a 9-7 win at No. 1, with sophomore Jordan Schaefer and freshman Sydney Soto claiming an 8-4 win at No. 2.

The only point for the Diplomats (0-3) on the day came at the No. 3 doubles spot with Emma Wu and Marissa Witmer edging senior Sage Cole and junior Taylor Cooper by an 8-4 score.

Salisbury swept the singles matches, with three going three sets. Schaefer won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 with Cooper claiming a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles. Kewdi won 7-5, 7-5 at No. 2.

At the top singles spot, Kezman dropped the opening set 7-5, but rallied for wins of 6-2 and 6-4 to claim the point. Soto also fell in her opening set, at No. 4, by a 6-3 score, but came back with 6-3, 6-1 wins to pick up the match.

Junior Shannon Hickman at No. 6 singles won 6-3 in the opening set before dropping the second 7-5 and rebounding with an 11-9 win to finish off the match.

The Sea Gulls get back in action on Saturday, March 10 at Haverford College. That match will begin at 10 a.m.
