Women's tennis falls to No. 24 Christopher Newport 6-3

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 Capital Athletic Conference decision to No. 24 Christopher Newport University on Saturday afternoon, but gave the Captains all they could handle.

The Sea Gulls (12-4, 4-1 CAC)  took one point in doubles play with sophomores Annika Kezman and Julia Kwedi earning an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles. The Captains (11-4, 5-1 CAC) claimed the other two doubles points with Salisbury's Jordan Schaefer and Sydney Soto falling 8-3 at No. 2 and Taylor Cooper and Sage Cole dropping an 8-0 decision at No. 3.

Salisbury picked up two points in singles play with Kwedi earning a 6-0, 7-5 win at No. 2 and Soto winning at No. 4 by a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 score.

Two other matches went to three sets with Copper narrowly dropping the No. 3 match 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 and Schaefer falling at No. 5 by a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 score.

Kezman fell at the top singles spot 6-3, 6-4, while Shannon Hickman lost at No. 6 by a 6-2, 6-2 score.

Salisbury is back in action on Sunday, April 15, hosting The College of New Jersey beginning at 10 a.m.
