Women's tennis falls against The College of New Jersey, 8-1

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team dropped its non-conference match on Sunday against The College of New Jersey, 8-1.

The Lions (11-0) earned five points in singles play, with the singles matches played first due to weather concerns. The lone point for the Sea Gulls (12-5) came from Julia Kwedi, who picked up a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2, improving to 11-2 in singles play this year. Kwedi has won four straight singles matches, three of which have come in matches against teams which are ranked regionally.

Freshman Sydney Soto took her match to three sets at No. 4, falling by a 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 score. Annika Kezman fell at No. 1 by a 6-3, 6-3 score with Jordan Schaefer falling 6-1, 7-5 at No. 5 and Shannon Hickman suffering a 6-4, 6-2 defeat at No. 6. Taylor Cooper lost at No. 3 by a 6-0, 6-1 score.

TCNJ earned the three doubles points with Kwedi and Kezman falling at No. 1 by an 8-6 score with Soto and Schaefer falling 8-3 at No. 2 and Cooper and Sage Cole dropping an 8-3 match at No. 3.

Salisbury closes the regular season with a four-match home stand this weekend beginning with matches against No. 18 University of Mary Washington and Southern Virginia University on Friday, April 20.
