Women's tennis rolls to 9-0 win at St. Mary's

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team opened Capital Athletic Conference play on Friday afternoon with a 9-0 win at St. Mary's College of Maryland.

The Sea Gulls (5-3, 1-0 CAC) started with a sweep of the three doubles matches, getting two by 8-0 scores. Junior Jordan Schaefer and sophomore Sydney Soto picked the shutout win at No. 2 and senior Taylor Cooper and freshman Sarah Dover did the same at No. 3.

The closest doubles match came at No. 1 where junior Annika Kezman and sophomore Laura Brown earned an 8-4 victory over their St. Mary's (0-12, 0-3 CAC) counterparts.

Finishing off the match, Salisbury earned all six singles matches with four of them ending by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Brown did so at No. 1 with Dover winning at No. 4, Ariana Leggio at No. 5 and Kayla Allen at No. 6.

Soto collected a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 while Shaefer won by the same score at No. 3.

Salisbury returns to action on Saturday morning, hosting Division I Delaware State University beginning at 11 a.m., at the Salisbury University Tennis Courts.
