Women's tennis drops close match to Division I Delaware State; Sunday's start time moved up

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 contest against Division I Delaware State University on Saturday morning at the Salisbury University Tennis Courts.

In doubles play, the Hornets (5-6) were able to claim two of the three narrowly-contested matches. Salisbury's point came at No. 3 where senior Taylor Cooper and freshman Sarah Dover picked up an 8-6 win. Delaware State was able to get an 8-7 (9-7) win at No. 1 over junior Annika Kezman and sophomore Laura Brown, while junior Jordan Schaefer and sophomore Sydney Soto fell at No. 2 by an 8-5 score.

In singles play, Kezman was able to collected a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 1 and Dover won at No. 6 by a 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 10-7 score for Salisbury (5-4).

Soto dropped a hard-fought first set at No. 4 by a 7-5 score before dropping the second set 6-1. Schaefer was defeated at No. 5 by a 6-1, 6-2 score while Brown at No. 2, and Cooper at No. 3, each fell by 6-0, 6-2 scores.

The Sea Gulls will play a pair of Capital Athletic Conference contests on Sunday, March 31, welcoming Penn State University-Harrisburg and York College of Pennsylvania to Salisbury. The opening match against the Lions, originally scheduled for 10 a.m., have been moved up to 9 a.m.
