Sea Gulls stifle Southern Virginia; clinch top seed in CAC tournament

SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 6 Salisbury University women's lacrosse team earned a convincing 18-1 victory over Southern Virginia University on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon, clinching the number one seed in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament.

The Sea Gulls (14-2, 5-0 CAC) got goals from 12 different players, with six recording two apiece. Seniors Gabby Mongno and Lindsey Wagner helped the maroon and gold out to a 13-0 halftime lead, as Mongno tallied two goals and Wagner notched two goals to go along with two assists and two groundballs.

Lydia McNulty tallied a team-high five points on two goals and three assists, while Alexis Strobel moved into a tie for seventh place in single-season assists in program history with 50.

Senior Ryan Schrader helped the Sea Gulls to a 17-3 advantage in draw controls as she topped 100 in her career with a team-high six.

The Salisbury defense held Southern Virginia (8-8, 0-6 CAC) without a shot until 3:55 left in the game, allowing just one goal on four shots. In the game, the Sea Gulls outshot the Knights 31-4. Salisbury has now held its last seven opponents, and 11 of its last 12, to single digits in goals.

Salisbury concludes the regular season on Wednesday, April 24 against St. Mary's College of Maryland. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
