Women's tennis closes CAC schedule with setback at Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team closed out Capital Athletic Conference regular season play on Saturday, falling at No. 13 University of Mary Washington, 9-0.

The Eagles (16-4, 7-0 CAC) took the three doubles points. Juniors Annika Kezman and Laura Brown battled at No. 1, falling 8-5, while junior Jordan Schaefer and sophomore Sydney Soto dropped the No. 2 match, 8-2, and senior Taylor Cooper and freshman Sarah Dover suffered the same fate that No. 3.

In singles play, the Sea Gulls (11-6, 5-2 CAC) pushed one match to three sets, where Schaefer dropped the No. 5 contest by a 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 score. At No. 1, Kezman fell 6-3, 6-3 while Brown lost at No. 2 by a 6-3, 7-5 score.

Cooper dropped her No. 3 match by a 6-2, 6-1 score with Soto losing at No. 4 by a 6-1, 6-0 score and senior Shannon Hickman suffering a 6-0, 6-1 defeat at No. 6.

The Sea Gulls will be the No. 3 seed in the upcoming CAC tournament, hosting the No. 6-seeded Penn State University-Harrisburg next weekend in a first round match.
