SALISBURY, Md. – Eight ties and five lead changes in a back-and-forth thriller at Maggs Physical Activities Center went against the Salisbury University men's basketball team on Sunday as the Sea Gulls dropped an overtime heartbreaker against the Hood Blazers, 84-82.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The game started out with both teams trading shots for the first five minutes. After a made Hood layup, Salisbury went on a 7-0 scoring run when Sean Carr scored on back-to-back possessions, followed by a Jordan Oates three-pointer that put the Sea Gulls up 15-7 with 13:18 left in the first half.
• Both sides traded baskets again with Salisbury extending its lead to as much 11 points, 27-16. with 7:08 left on the first-half clock. The Blazers fought back going on an 11-2 scoring run to bring it within a point. Mason Wang scored eight of the 11 points during the run, including two three-pointers.
• The Sea Gulls maintained their lead thanks in part to a pair of three-point shots made by Johnny Fierstein and Paul Garcia to head to the locker room with a 42-38 lead over Hood
• Hood got out to a hot start in the second half, tying the game at 46 with 17:42 left in regulation. The Blazers took their first lead since the opening minutes of the game after Evan Wang made a three-pointer.
• After a made Gary Briddell free throw, Hood went on a 10-2 scoring run to push its lead up to 61-52 with 9:34 left in regulation.
• The Sea Gulls fought all the way back and knotted the game at 68 after Oates drilled a three-point shot with 3:37 left in regulation. Both teams traded a few more baskets and Fierstein drew a foul and made one of his free throws to extend the Salisbury lead to 75-72 with 23 seconds left to play.
• Mason Wang drilled the game-tying three-pointer with 10 seconds left on the game clock. Both teams had a shot to win in the closing moments of regulation. Briddell's three-point attempt rimmed out with four seconds left while Hood's Bryce Butler's attempt fell short to send the game into overtime, tied at 75.
• In overtime, both teams again traded baskets to begin the extra period, but another Mason Wang three put Hood up, 83-80, with 2:22 left. A few possessions later, Cameron Heard sunk two free throws to bring the Sea Gulls within one, 83-82, with just over a minute to go.
• Briddell snagged a steal with 33 seconds left to allow the Sea Gulls to call a timeout and draw up a play with 27 seconds left. Paul Garcia tried to shake his defender but had his shot blocked with four seconds left. After a foul by the Sea Gulls, Jack Fricka made a free throw to give the game it's final score of 84-82.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

• All five starters for Salisbury scored double-digit points.
• Jordan Oates recorded his second consecutive and third double-double of the season with 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field and 4-of-10 from three-point range. Oates also grabbed 17 boards.
• Sean Carr was a point away from a career-high with 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting, including a perfect 2-for-2 from three. Carr also added seven rebounds to his line.
• Cameron Heard, Gary Briddell and Johnny Fierstein each scored 10 points. Briddell also added six rebounds, seven assists, three steals and two blocks. Heard also dished out six assists.
• Salisbury held the 47-37 edge in rebounds and the narrow 14-13 advantage in the turnover battle.

HOOD GAME NOTES

• The Wang brothers led the Hood offense. Mason Wang scored 26 points, shooting 9-of-17 from the field and 6-of-12 from beyond the arc. Evan Wang scored 20 points on 7-for-14 shooting and 6-for-11 from three-point range.
• Trumaine Strickland added nine points off the bench.
• Hood held the advantage in shooting percentage with 47.1 percent (32-68) and 40.0 percent (16-40) compared to Salisbury's 41.2 percent (28-68) from the field and 34.2 percent (12-35) from three.

• Salisbury will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 5 when the Sea Gulls host the Apprentice School.
