SALISBURY, Md. – The third-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team used stout defense and efficient, methodical offense to breeze by the 23rd-ranked Mary Washington Eagles, 17-2, to conclude the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) schedule with a perfect 7-0 record to clinch the top seed in the C2C Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Salisbury got the scoring started early and often by scoring the first five goals of the game.
• Alexis Strobel and Erin Scannell began the Sea Gull five-goal run with unassisted strikes within two minutes of one another, to take the early 2-0 lead in the first five minutes of the contest.
• In the final three goals of the first-quarter run, Strobel was involved in all three as she assisted tallies from Julie Talbert, Lydia McNulty and Scannell.
• Mary Washington ended to Sea Gull run with a free position goal from Kate Sovero at the 6:10 mark.
• Before the first half ended, Scannell completed her hat trick with a free position goal and Delaney Hill buried a shot off a Strobel pass to give the Sea Gulls the 7-2 lead going into the second half.
• Coming out of the halftime break, Salisbury went on another five-goal run starting two minutes into the second half when Talbert found Hill for her second goal of the day.
• Scannell and Strobel were involved in the next three goals, with two from Scannell and a goal and an assist from Strobel to extend the lead to ten, 11-1, nine minutes into the second stanza.
• Lauren Valenti added her name to the scoring column off a Riley Hartman pass to push the SU advantage to 12-1.
• Kayla Sarazin scored Mary Washington's final goal of the game on a man-up opportunity with 15:41 remaining in the game.
• The final five-goal run by the Sea Gulls included three free position goals from Anna Robinson, Leah Vilov and Mary Hanzsche.
• McNulty ended the scoring as she completed the hat trick off an unassisted marker with five seconds remaining to secure the 17-2 win over the Eagles.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

• Salisbury held Mary Washington to two goals in the contest. It is the lowest goal total allowed by Salisbury all season and the lowest opponent goal total since the 2020 season opener against Stevenson on Feb. 15 when the Sea Gulls downed the Mustangs, 14-2. 
• Alexis Strobel led the Salisbury offense with seven points on two goals and five assists. It is Strobe's second-straight game with five assists.
• Erin Scannell tallied a team-high five goals and three draw controls against the Eagles.
• Lydia McNulty scored three goals for the Sea Gulls.
• Carrie Hesen caused a team-high three turnovers while also collecting two draw controls.
• Delaney Hill and Bri Held helped pace the Sea Gull defense with two caused turnovers apiece.
• Emily Glossinger and Kate Lamberti both collected three ground balls apiece.
• Mary Claire Hisle recorded six saves, caused two turnovers and picked up two ground balls.
• Kaitlyn Hunsinger stopped two shots in the goal for the Sea Gulls.
• Salisbury edged Mary Washington 20-6 in ground balls.

 MARY WASHINGTON GAME NOTES

• Kate Sorven and Kayla Sarazin both tallied one goal for the Eagles.
• Maya Levin collected a game-high five draw controls
• Rylie Cole led the defense with two ground balls and also won three draw controls.  
• Reilly Miller made nine saves in the goal and picked up two ground balls.
• The Eagles held the advantage in draw controls, 11-8.
