Mitchell nets hat trick in 7-1 win over Rochester

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The third-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team cruised to a 7-1 victory over the Rochester Yellowjackets on Monday to improve to 12-0 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It didn't take long for Salisbury to get on the board. Two and half minutes into the game, Alayna Gigliotti forced a turnover in the SU attacking zone and found an open McKenzie Jamison in front of the cage.
  • Two minutes later, Allie Davis knocked in a slap shot from the top of the arc to double SU's lead.
  • In the closing stages of the first quarter, McKenzie Mitchell scored off a rebound on Davis' initial shot to push the lead to 3-0.
  • A flurry in front of the cage in the 18th minute of the game extended Salisbury's lead. Rochester's Helen Schmitter saved back-to-back shots but couldn't save the third one as Mitchell buried the goal on a Mack Dinopoulos assist.
  • Olivia Twilley and Elle Wood goals two minutes apart gave Salisbury a 6-0 lead heading into halftime.
  • Mitchell recorded her third goal of the contest in the 41st minute of the game to extend Salisbury's lead to 7-0.
