Seniors show out in 6-0 win over Mary Washington in C2C opener

SALISBURY, Md. – The seniors put on a show for Senior Day as the third-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team overwhelmed the Mary Washington Eagles, 6-0, in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It took five minutes for the Sea Gulls to get on the board. Emma Jeffries set up McKenzie Mitchell on a penalty corner and Mitchell rocketed a slap shot through the Mary Washington defense and into the back of the cage.
  • Right before the end of the first quarter, Kaitlyn DeModna backed down her defender and pushed the ball far post to an open Jordan Brooks to double SU's lead to 2-0 at the end of the first.
  • Jeffries added to Salisbury's lead in the 28th minute. Mitchell's initial shot was saved by UMW's Bailey McNabb but the UMW defense couldn't clear the ball as Jeffries cleaned up the rebound to give the Sea Gulls a 3-0 lead at the half.
  • It didn't take long for the Sea Gulls to add to their lead in the second half. Mitchell blasted another shot past the Eagle defense and off the post for the tally in the 33rd minute.
  • Five minutes later, good passing on a penalty corner eventually led to Allie Davis finding the back of the cage on an Alayna Gigliotti assist.
  • After the Sea Gulls fired at McNabb for the rest of the game, Maci Long finally put an end to the barrage and netted the final goal of the contest in the 56th minute on a Mack Dinopoulos assist.
