Game Recap: Field Hockey |

No. 1 Field Hockey clinches top seed in C2C Tournament with 1-0 win over No. 19 CNU

SALISBURY, Md. – The top-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team continued to roll with a 1-0 victory over 19th-ranked Christopher Newport to earn the top seed and hosting rights for next week's Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a defensive struggle in the first half, Salisbury looked to get on the board first in the 35th minute. Mack Dinopoulos' penalty corner led to two chances for SU.  Alayna Gigliotti's shot was blocked by the CNU defense before Molly Reardon's rebound looked to head goalwards but a defensive save by Brooke Billhimer kept the game scoreless.
  • The Sea Gulls finally broke through in the 48th minute. Gigliotti forced a turnover in the defensive zone and played a give-and-go down the field to Reardon, who crossed the ball in front of the cage to Allie Davis near post for a one-timer.
  • CNU threatened in the closing stages of the game. Katie Abendschoen's shot was saved by a diving Mackenzie Peacock to seal the conference victory.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Salisbury tallied 15 shots and 11 penalty corners.
  • Allie Davis netted the lone Sea Gull goal. It was her 13th goal of the season.
  • Molly Reardon tallied the assist on Davis' goal, her third of the season.
  • Mackenzie Peacock earned her 15th win in goal with a save.
