First-quarter frenzy leads No. 1 Field Hockey over DeSales, 6-2

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The top-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team clinched a perfect regular season with a 6-2 victory over the DeSales Bulldogs on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It only took a minute for Salisbury to score the game's first goal. McKenzie Mitchell pushed the ball across the arc to Allie Davis, who beat the DeSales keeper near post.
  • DeSales responded two minutes later with a redirect by Maddie Trocki on Jordyne Stong's initial shot.
  • DeSales took the lead in the seventh minute when Trocki and Stong teamed up again for the second goal of the contest.
  • Emma Jeffries tied the game 12 minutes into the first after he initial shot went off the post, she corralled her own rebound and pushed it across the goal line to tie the game at two.
  • Two minutes later, Molly Reardon deked the goalkeeper and blasted a shot in the back of the cage to allow the Sea Gulls to take the 3-2 lead right before the end of the first quarter.
  • McKenzie Jamison added to the SU lead in the 21st minute as she dribbled down the field and got taken out by the goalkeeper but was able to get the shot off and score.
  • Davis put the Sea Gulls up by three with two minutes left in the first half when her and Mitchell teamed up on a penalty corner play.
  • Davis got her hat trick right as the second half got underway as the Sea Gulls pressured the ball up the field and was able to convert a goal.

  • Maddie Trocki and Jordyne Stong each had a goal and an assist.
  • Kayla Yeatman had five saves for the Bulldogs.
UP NEXT
  • As the top seed in next week's Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, the Sea Gulls will await the winner of the CNU/Mary Washington matchup on Wednesday to play in the C2C Championship game on Saturday, Nov. 5.
  • The game is tentatively scheduled for 1 p.m. at Sea Gull Stadium.
