Game Recap: Field Hockey |

No. 1 Field Hockey collects C2C Championship in 2-0 win over No. 17 CNU

SALISBURY, Md. – The top-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team earned its fourth consecutive and 24th conference championship in program history with a 2-0 victory over the 17th-ranked CNU Captains on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CNU came out hot to start the game but the Salisbury defense withstood the early test. Katie Abendschoen and Abby Asuncion put shots on net in the early goings but Mackenzie Peacock stonewalled the attempts to keep the game scoreless.
  • Salisbury struggled in the 25 minutes to get anything going offensively. However, the tide started to turn in the 29th minute. A penalty corner play led by Mack Dinopoulos led to touch passes by Alayna Gigliotti and McKenzie Mitchell and a blast in the back of the net by Allie Davis to put the Sea Gulls on the board right before halftime.
  • The Sea Gulls looked to pad their lead on two good chances by Mitchell and Davis off penalty corners in the beginning of the second half. Mitchell's shot was stopped by Lily Kerr in the 31st minute. Davis' shot got past Kerr but Brooke Billhimer made a defensive save to keep the Salisbury lead to one.
  • Salisbury got the insurance that they were hoping for in the 46th minute. A penalty stroke was called and Davis stepped up to the spot and drilled the ball past the keeper to extend the lead to 2-0.
  • The defense took care of business for the rest of the game. Asuncion had a chance at goal in the 53rd minute but Peacock turned the shot away.

  • Salisbury tallied nine shots in the game, four of which were on target.
  • Allie Davis recorded her second straight multi-goal game with a pair of tallies in the win. She now has 18 goals and 41 points on the season.
