Game Recap: Field Hockey |

No. 3 Field Hockey outlasts No. 15 York, 1-0

SALISBURY, Md. – A back-and-forth defensive battle between two top-20 teams went in favor of the third-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team as the Sea Gulls picked up a 1-0 shutout win over the No. 15 York Spartans on Wednesday in the annual Corners for Cancer game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After York threatened to get on the board in the early goings, Salisbury broke the deadlock in the 13th minute of the game. A turnover in the SU attacking zone led to Julia Frankis passing the ball ahead to Kaitlyn DeModna to put away the lone goal of the contest.
  • SU's next best chance at goal came in the 36th minute of the game. DeModna had a clear look at goal but York's keeper made a diving save to keep the game at a one-goal deficit.
  • Despite 19 corners, Salisbury couldn't find added insurance late in the game but the defense withheld a late York push in the closing stages to seal the win.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Salisbury notched 17 shots with five on target.
  • During the Corners for Cancer game, the Sea Gulls racked up the corners with 19 in the contest.
