Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Top-ranked Field Hockey prevails in second-round slugfest with No. 12 York

SALISBURY, Md. – The top-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team began its run in the 2022 NCAA Field Hockey Championships with a 1-0 victory over the 12th-ranked York Spartans in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • York turned up the pressure in the early stages of the game in hopes of an upset. In the 12th minute of the game, Mackenzie Peacock stonewalled a pair of shots by Katie Martino and Maycee Collison to keep the Spartans off the board.
  • After struggling a bit offensively in the first half, Salisbury got a shot on target in the 29th minute by Kaitlyn DeModna but it was saved by Belle Fields.
  • Salisbury came out of the gates quick in the second half. Back-to-back penalty corners led to the Sea Gulls' first goal of the contest. Mack Dinopoulos inserted a pass over to McKenzie Mitchell, who two-touched a pass over to Allie Davis. The shot by Davis ricocheted off of Fields and into the back of the cage in the 31st minute of the contest.
  • DeModna looked to double Salisbury's lead in the 42nd minute with back-to-back chances but both shots were saved by Fields.
  • York pressured again in the closing stages of the game. But the Salisbury defense stood tall to prevent the upset bid.
