NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – With the holidays around the corner, the Salisbury University men's and women's track and field teams brought home a fair share of gold, silver and bronze at the CNU Holiday Open on Saturday afternoon at the Vince Brown Track. No team scores were recorded for the meet.

"I'm really proud of how our teams competed, especially our freshman competitors who did so well in their first meet," said Sea Gull head coach
Jim Jones. "All in all, it was an excellent start to the season and a great way to close out the fall semester."

HOW IT HAPPENED
Men
- Mike Heinz earned a win in the 400-meter run, breaking the tape in 51.51 seconds. Ryan Temple finished second in the event in 52.39 seconds, while Hayden Myers made it a Sea Gull sweep on the podium by taking third in 52.54 seconds.
- Connor Kinch grabbed the gold in the 3,000-meter run in 9:08.67. Jason Cave (9:11.51), Matt Grossi (9:16.83) and Declan Burke (9:40.41) gave SU the top four finishers in the event.
- Sam Bodmer won the 5,000-meter run in 16:03.76, while Luke Petenbrink took third in 16:23.21.
- The 4x400-meter relay team earned a victory in its first run of the season, with Temple, Myers, Heinz and Kai Smith breaking the tape in 3:27.00.
- Andrew McGinley and Dylan Haun each cleared 1.82 meters (5-11.5) in the high jump, good for the second-best mark in the event, with McGinley officially finishing second on a tiebreaker.
- Luis Smith nabbed silver medals in the shot put (13.68m, 44-10.75) and the weight throw (14.97m, 49-1.5).
- Braedon Moyer finished third in the mile run in 4:58.92.

- After the holiday break, the Sea Gulls return to action with the Patriot Games on the campus of George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., on Saturday, Jan. 28.
