MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – For the second time in three weeks, Sydney Ruckel wrote her name in the Salisbury University track and field record books, breaking the school record in the women's outdoor 10,000-meter run to highlight the Sea Gulls' first day at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational on Thursday night.
RESULTS
Ruckel, a senior from Mt. Airy, Md., finished second out of 15 runners in the 10,000 meters, crossing the finish line in 38:13.94. Despite traveling over eight hours by bus the day of the event, Ruckel easily eclipsed Alison Schwartz's previous record time of 38:29.99, set in 2017.
A four-time conference champion in indoor and outdoor events, Ruckel now owns three school records after putting her name in the outdoor books for the first time. She broke indoor 5,000-meter record (18:24.74) on March 5 and set the indoor 3,000-meter record (10:32.67) in 2020.
Sam Bodmer competed for the Sea Gulls in the men's 10,000-meter run, finishing 12th in a time of 33:29.89.
The Sea Gulls will compete in the second day of the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational on Friday. First events begin at 10 a.m.
