WINCHESTER, Va. – Senior distance runner Sydney Ruckel added one more school record to her illustrious career, shattering the Sea Gulls' indoor 5,000-meter run mark as the Salisbury University indoor track and field teams competed at the South Region NCAA Final Qualifier on Saturday afternoon at Shenandoah University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Women
- Sydney Ruckel, a senior from Mt. Airy, Md., broke the tape in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 18:24.74, blowing past her old personal best by 34 seconds. The mark eclipsed the old record of 18:38.30, set by Ashley Mazer in 2020, by nearly 14 seconds. Ruckel, a four-time conference champion in indoor and outdoor events, also owns the school record in the indoor 3,000-meter run (10:32.67).
- Heather Delaplaine set a personal best in the mile run, crossing in second place in 5:19.72.
- Alyssa Santoro ran the 3,000-meter run in a personal-best 11:00.76, finishing fourth.
Men
- Matt Grossi finished second in the 3,000-meter run in 8:59.96, while Sam Bodmer (9:11.41) took sixth.
- Ryan Temple (1:58.95) took third place in the 800-meter run.
- Sherrod Frye earned a third-place finish in the long jump at 6.12 meters (20-1).
- Travis Zimmerman finished fourth in the weight throw, clocking in at 16.58 meters (54-4.75).
