TOWSON, Md. – The Salisbury University track and field teams stood their ground in a crowded field at the first day of the Towson Invitational on Friday afternoon at Johnny Unitas Stadium.
RESULTS
HOW IT HAPPENED
Men
- Ethan Gray and Sebastian Quinn earned the best consecutive finishes of any Sea Gull on the day with top-10 runs in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Gray finished fifth in a season-best 10:24.81, while Quinn came right behind in sixth in a personal-best 10:32.67.
- Rashawn Markman competed in the triple jump for the first time since competing at the NCAA Indoor National Championships last month. The newly-minted Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Men's Indoor Athlete of the Year and Rookie of the Year made his outdoor debut in the event to the tune of 13.98 meters (45-10.5) and a fifth-place finish.
- Luis Smith earned a ninth-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 13.87 meters (45-6.25). He also placed 22nd in the hammer throw (38.68m, 126-11).
- All four Sea Gulls who competed in the 1,500-meter run finished in the top 25. Christian Ciattei led the pack by crossing in 12th place in 4:12.78, while Austin Foote (personal-best 4:14.47), Matt Grossi (4:15.22) and Declan Burke (personal-best 4:15.39) finished 20th, 23rd and 24th, respectively.
Women
- Alyssa Santoro took seventh place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 12:59.48.
- Lian Peach finished 21st in the triple jump at 9.79 meters (32-1.5).

- The Sea Gulls will compete in the second day of the Towson Invitational on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
