GENEVA, Ohio – Javelin thrower Cameron Hasko of the Salisbury University track and field teams picked the right time for a peak performance, smashing the school and conference javelin records on the way to a 13th-place finish at the 2022 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships, which began on Thursday at the SPIRE Institute.
RESULTS
Hasko, a sophomore from Branchburg, N.J., saw his first of three throws travel 61.08 meters (200-4), overtaking his old personal record by more than two feet. The distance is the best new-style javelin throw mark in Sea Gull history, breaking the previous school record of 60.53 meters (198-7), set by Matt McMurdo in 2010.
Hasko, who finished one slot above his 14th-place seeding at nationals, now also owns the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) javelin record, surpassing Robert Doster of York (Pa.), who registered 60.60 meters (198-10) in 2014.
"I couldn't be happier for Cameron and throws coach Masoud Moghaddam," said Salisbury head track and field coach Jim Jones. "They have worked so well together and it has shown all year with the improvements that Cameron has made. We're so proud of how he competed today and we're excited to see what he will do in the future."
The Sea Gulls have one more athlete still to participate at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Rashawn Markman will compete in the men's triple jump on Saturday at 11 a.m.
