ASHLAND, Va. – The 12th-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team opened 2022 in a major way with a 10-0 shutout win over the Randolph-Macon Yellowjackets on Thursday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After an Alayna Gigliotti shot in the arc, Allie Davis put away a rebound in the fourth minute of the game.
- The Sea Gulls took advantage of a penalty corner and a loose ball in front of the cage as Olivia Twilley cleaned up the loose ball in the 13th minute to double up the lead.
- After a scoreless second quarter, back-to-back goals by McKenna Horner opened the second half and doubled SU's advantage again to 4-0.
- Kaitlyn DeModna put away back-to-back goals of her own later in the third quarter to push SU's lead to 6-0.
- The fourth quarter was the Jordan Brooks show as the senior scored four goals in the fourth quarter to give the game its final margin, 10-0.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
- Salisbury's 10 goals were the first time that the Sea Gulls hit double-digits since an 11-0 win over Virginia Wesleyan on Sept. 17, 2015.
- Jordan Brooks led the way with four goals, all in the fourth quarter. It was the second multi-goal game of her career.
- McKenna Horner and Kaitlyn DeModna each notched a pair of goals in their collegiate debut. Horner also added an assist.
- Olivia Twilley and Allie Davis also added a goal.
- Salisbury shot the ball 42 times with 34 shots on target.
R-MC GAME NOTES
- Randolph-Macon goalkeepers combined for 24 saves. Kelsey Seiler made 17 saves in 45 minutes of action.
- R-MC only had one shot in the contest.
UP NEXT
- Salisbury heads across the Delaware Bay to take on the Stockton Ospreys on Saturday, Sept. 3.
- The game is scheduled for a noon start in Galloway, N.J.
