No. 12 Field Hockey rolls through Stockton, 7-0

GALLOWAY, N.J. – The 12th-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team continued its torrid start to the season with a 7-0 victory over the Stockton Ospreys on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Salisbury got on the board in the waning moments of the first quarter. A long pass from McKenzie Jamison found Allie Davis on a breakaway and she put the ball in the back of the cage.
  • Four goals were put away in the second quarter. Mack Dinopoulos put away a loose ball in front of the cage on a penalty corner in the 18th minute of the game.
  • Kaitlyn DeModna and Elle Wood put away goals two minutes apart midway through the second quarter to push SU's lead to 4-0.
  • Wood found McKenna Horner on a backhanded pass in the 26th minute to give the Sea Gulls the 5-0 at the end of the first half.
  • Horner netted her second goal of the game to open the second quarter after she corralled a loose ball in front of the cage.
  • Another penalty corner play by SU gave the game its final margin when Grace Fipps pushed the ball over to McKenzie Mitchell at the top of the arc and her shot blasted by the Stockton keeper.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Salisbury recorded back-to-back shutouts to open the season for the first time since the 2018 season.
  • McKenna Horner has put away two goals in each of the first two games of her collegiate career.
  • Allie Davis and Elle Wood each tallied a goal and an assist.
  • Mackenzie Peacock stopped two shots to earn to win.
  • Salisbury registered 22 shots, 15 of which on goal.
  • Salisbury also tallied 21 penalty corners in the game.
STOCKTON GAME NOTES
  • Kylie Mitchell had six saves for the Ospreys.
  • Stockton tallied five shots and two shots on goal.
UP NEXT
  • Salisbury opens the home slate on Wednesday, Sept 7 against its Eastern Shore rival, Washington College.
  • The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at Sea Gull Stadium.
