Second-half surge pushes No. 12 Field Hockey over No. 8 Messiah, 3-2

SALISBURY, Md. – The top-15 foes scored five goals in the final 16 minutes of the game but the No. 12 Salisbury University field hockey team prevailed, 3-2, over the No. 8 Messiah Falcons on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game was back-and-forth for most of three quarters with Salisbury controlling most of the possession in the game.
  • A penalty corner in the 44th minute led to the Sea Gulls' opening goal of the game. A give-and-go by Allie Davis led to a McKenzie Mitchell tally to open the scoring right before the end of the third quarter.
  • Messiah tied the game in the opening moments of the fourth quarter. Mallory Kline put away a loose ball in front of the cage to even the game at one.
  • Less than a minute later, Salisbury capitalized on another penalty corner. Mack Dinopoulos's penalty corner was corralled by Mitchell and one-touched over to Davis to give the Sea Gulls' the 2-1 lead.
  • In the 48th minute, Dinopoulos redirected a Davis shot past the Messiah keeper to give SU an insurance goal.
  • A turnover in the 59th minute led to a Messiah corner. Leah Bryner put away a redirection to cut into the lead but the Falcons weren't able to overcome the Sea Gull advantage.
