SALISBURY, Md. – The sixth-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team took care of the McDaniel Green Terror, 5-0, on Saturday to finish out its four-game homestand unbeaten.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Just over a minute into the game, Salisbury opened the scoring. McKenzie Mitchell made a move on a penalty corner play and passed the ball over to Allie Davis for a one-timer past the McDaniel keeper.
- In the eighth minute, Salisbury earned a penalty stroke. Emma Jeffries stepped up to the spot and drained the shot to double SU's lead.
- Mitchell and Mack Dinopoulos teamed up to tack onto Salisbury's early lead. On a penalty corner, Mitchell sent a shot goalward that Dinopoulos redirected into the back of the cage to push Salisbury's advantage up to 3-0 in the closing moments of the first quarter.
- Salisbury added another goal in the fourth quarter after a McDaniel turnover, Davis pushed the ball over to Mitchell who blasted a shot past the McDaniel keeper.
- McKenzie Jamison iced the game in the 57th minute. Dinopoulos corralled a loose ball in front of the cage and pushed the ball over to Jamison to extend SU's lead to 5-0.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
- Salisbury outshot McDaniel, 31-1.
- Allie Davis continued her scoring streak to six games. She scored a goal and tallied an assist.
- McKenzie Mitchell notched a goal and two assists.
- Mack Dinopoulos scored a goal and added an assist.
- Emma Jeffries recorded her first goal of the season on the penalty stroke.
MCDANIEL GAME NOTES
- Olivia Vanreusel tallied the lone shot for the Green Terror.
- Mikayla Smith made 13 saves in net.
UP NEXT
- Salisbury will head south across the Bay Bridge Tunnel to take on the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins on Wednesday, Sept. 21.
- The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start in Virginia Beach.
