PITMAN, N.J. – The New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) announced on Tuesday the addition of the Salisbury University men's and women's swimming teams as affiliate members to the conference, effective with the 2023-24 academic year.
Salisbury, who is also an affiliate member of the NJAC in football, joins the University of Mary Washington and Roger Williams University as the newest members of the conference. With the additions, the NJAC will feature nine women's swimming and diving programs and eight men's swimming and diving programs, in addition to full-member programs Kean University (women only), Montclair State University, Ramapo College, Rowan University, The College of New Jersey, and William Paterson University.
The NJAC will also host its own swimming and diving championship meet for the first time in conference history beginning in 2023-24. The championship meet dates and location will be announced at a later time.
"We are thankful for the swim program's time in the Metropolitan Collegiate Swimming & Diving Conference and are excited to join the NJAC," said
Dr. Gerry DiBartolo, SU's Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation. "The move to the NJAC provides more opportunities for our swim student-athletes to win weekly and postseason awards as well as improving the student-athlete experience."
Salisbury will continue to be a member of the MET Conference until the conclusion of the 2022-23 Championship, which will be held from Feb. 16-19 at Rutgers University.
"Our program is absolutely thrilled to become an affiliate member of the NJAC," stated
Nate Parsley, Salisbury's head swim coach. "As a former student-athlete and coach in the conference, I am excited the help lead the Sea Gulls towards securing one of those much coveted 'NJAC Champion' t-shirts. The NJAC is one of the best swimming and diving conferences in NCAA Division III and we look forward to representing and contending with some of the nation's best."
The Salisbury men's and women's swim teams look to improve on their perfect 6-0 record as the Sea Gulls compete for the first time in the new year on Saturday, Jan. 14 against McDaniel. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. in Westminster, Md.
