Track & Field returns from winter break at Patriot Games

FAIRFAX, Va. – The Salisbury University men's and women's track & field teams returned from winter break in strong form at the Patriot Games, hosted by George Mason University on Saturday at George Mason Field House.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Men

Kai Smith finished second in the 400-meter run with a personal-best time of 50.93 seconds, while Mike Heinz came in right behind in third in 51.47 seconds. Ryan Temple crossed seventh in the event in 52.36 seconds.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Temple, Hayden Myers, Heinz and Smith made waves with a nationally-elite mark of 3:24.54, good for second place behind only Division I hosts GMU.
Jacob Shelton grabbed a podium finish in the 60-meter dash, taking third place in a personal-best 7.06 seconds.
Zion Wamley (6.51m, 21-4.25), Tyson Bowie (6.27m, 20-7) and Jon Alicea (5.75m, 18-10.5) finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, in the long jump.
Alicea (12.79m, 41-11.5) and Wamley (12.47m, 40-11) also took fourth and fifth in the triple jump, with Liam Kessell (12.35m, 40-6.25) coming in seventh.
Gavin Shaffer cracked the top-six in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing sixth in 8.94 seconds.
Dylan Haun took sixth in the high jump at 1.75 meters (5-8.75).

Women

Emma Christman won the bronze in the triple jump with a distance of 10.22 meters (33-6.5).
The 4x400-meter relay team of Erin Connelly, Marisa Servis, Abby Simmons and Destinee Ekanem grabbed fourth place in a time of 4:37.83.
Marlyse Haack clocked in sixth in the long jump at 4.91 meters (16-1.5).
Mia Hill recorded a trio of top-15 finishes, punching in 10th in the 60-meter dash (8.25 seconds), 10th in the long jump (4.42m, 14-6) and 14th in the 200-meter dash (27.84 seconds).
Alyssa Santoro crossed 15th in the 3,000-meter run in 10:55.26.

UP NEXT

The Sea Gulls will return to the Commonwealth on Sunday, Feb. 5, for the Richard Drake Invitational, hosted by Virginia Wesleyan University.
The day's events from the Virginia Beach Sports Center will begin at 9 a.m.
