Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Reed, Hunteman lift No. 5 Field Hockey past UMW, 2-0

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Madelyn Reed and Arden Hunteman each scored a goal in the third quarter, powering the fifth-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team to its seventh straight win, 2-0 over the Mary Washington Eagles, in a battle of Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) foes on Saturday afternoon at the Battleground Athletic Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Sea Gulls applied relentless pressure in the first quarter, putting three of four shots on target, but Eagle goalie Bailey McNabb kept all three out of the cage.
  • Salisbury kept the attack up in the second quarter, outshooting UMW 3-1, but McNabb again denied every SU chance, including back-to-back shots from Marli McDorman and Molly Reardon early in the period.
  • SU finally broke through early in the third quarter. After earning back-to-back penalty corners in the 34th minute, Madelyn Reed found herself open in the left corner near the cage, took a pass from McDorman and fired it home to put the Sea Gulls up 1-0.
  • The Sea Gulls struck again in the dying moments of the third. In the midst of a counterattack, Alayna Gigliotti found an open Arden Hunteman for a strike, doubling the SU lead to 2-0 with 35 seconds left.
  • The Eagles managed just one shot to counter in the fourth quarter, which Addy O'Connell saved to preserve another clean sheet. SU kept the ball on the UMW side of the pitch in the final minutes with several penalty corners in a row, running the clock down to another victory.
