Men's and Women's Swimming dominate York (Pa.)

YORK, Pa. – Four program records were broken on Saturday afternoon as the Salisbury University men's and women's swimming teams defeated the York College of Pennsylvania Spartans. The women's team defeated the Spartans 154-64, while the men's team won 164-80.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Women
  • The women's squad started the day off hot, taking the top spot in the opening event. The relay team of Emma Schlutt, Maddie Powell, Lily Griffin, and Alexa Hilty set a new program record in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:50.80. Schlutt's time of 28.05 in her leg of the relay set a program record for the 50-yard backstroke.
  • The Sea Gulls continued to find success as the meet progressed. In the 200-yard butterfly, Griffin added her name again to the record books as she finished first at 2:11.48.
  • The fast freshman Schlutt continued the stellar start to her collegiate career with a record in the 200-yard backstroke. She led the event with a time of 2:11.88.
  • In the 100-yard backstroke, Delaney Gibbons edged out her York opponents with a time of 1:00.79, one of many exciting finishes by Salisbury.
Men
  • The men's team started their portion of the day's events with an impressive finish as they swept the podium in the 200-yard medley relay. The Sea Gulls were led in the event by the team of Lucas Mitchell, Dominic Kazzi, Owen Brewer, and Michael DeSimone, who finished with a time of 1:35.67.
  • The Sea Gulls also swept the podium in the 200-yard freestyle as Matt Merke, Kyle Skelly, and Brewer finished in the top spots. Merke led the way with a time of 1:46.21.
  • The podium sweeps did not end there, however, as Salisbury again claimed the top spots in the 100-yard breaststroke. Brady Wolf beat out his teammates with a time of 58.87 while Gabriele Miksa and Kazzi rounded out the podium.
  • Christopher Knorr controlled the field in the 200-yard butterfly as he finished at 1:56.37, nearly 10 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls have a two-week break before they head back on the road to take on Eastern Shore rival Washington College on Saturday, Nov. 4.
  • The meet is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. in Chestertown, Md. at the Casey Swim Center.
