No. 5 Field Hockey blanks No. 17 TCNJ, 4-0, on Senior Day

SALISBURY, Md. – The fifth-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team shook off a midweek defeat with a 4-0 Senior Day win over the 17th-ranked TCNJ Lions on Saturday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Sea Gulls provided ample pressure in the first quarter, putting four shots on goal, but Lion keeper Brigette Racey made three saves and Emily Dvorsky recorded a defensive save to keep the ball out of the cage.
  • After another lopsided second quarter, Salisbury finally broke the ice with under two minutes until the half. Arden Hunteman took a shot that Racey denied, but McKenna Horner was there to clean up for a rebound goal to make it 1-0 SU.
  • Horner struck again in the dying minutes of the third quarter. Off a penalty corner, Alayna Gigliotti fired a dart into the circle that Horner controlled and deposited into the net, doubling the Sea Gull lead at 2-0.
  • Horner again found herself in the middle of the action early in the fourth quarter, breaking away down the left seam and feeding Hunteman across the cage for a brilliant one-timer to make it 3-0 in the 49th minute.
  • Salisbury tacked on one more off another set piece in the 51st minute. Molly Reardon received the corner at the top of the arc and found Mack Dinopoulos to her left, who wristed it past several teammates and defenders into the right corner of the cage, giving the game its final 4-0 margin.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • McKenna Horner scored two goals and dished out an assist for a season-high five points. Horner has scored six of her seven goals this season across a trio of multi-goal games.
  • Arden Hunteman contributed a fourth-quarter goal off the bench, while Mack Dinopoulos provided the final dagger with her own fourth-quarter tally.
  • Alayna Gigliotti and Molly Reardon each notched an assist.
  • The Sea Gulls took 22 shots in the game, including 14 on goal, and earned 17 penalty corners.
  • SU did not allow TCNJ to take a shot and only conceded one penalty corner.
  • Addy O'Connell played all 60 minutes in the cage to pick up her eighth shutout of the year.
  • Reardon and Kaitlyn DeModna each received green cards in the game, and Reardon also picked up a yellow card.
  • Before the game the Sea Gulls honored their five graduating seniors: forwards Julia Frankis and Molly Reardon, midfielders Mack Dinopoulos and Elle Wood, and defender Christine Goetz.
