2023 C2C Cross Country Championships Preview

The 2023 edition of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Cross Country Championships heads to sunny California as UC Santa Cruz hosts the event at Baylands Regional Park in Sunnyvale, Calif. The Salisbury University men's and women's cross country teams will compete on Saturday, Oct. 28, starting at 1 p.m. EDT/10 a.m. PDT.

The Sea Gull men finished top-five in three of their four meets this season, picking up team victories at the Salisbury University Fall Classic on Sep. 2 and the Don Cathcart Invitational on Sep. 30.
Junior Matt Grossi won the season-opening Salisbury University Fall Classic, crossing the finish line with a personal best time of 25:20.8, the eighth-fastest for an SU runner at Winter Place Park since 2006. His stellar time earned him C2C Athlete of the Week honors.
At both home meets junior Sam Bodmer crossed the line with finishes in the top-five. On Sep. 2 he took home fifth place, finishing the course in 26:06.6. Bodmer improved his time at the next home meet on Sep. 30, crossing the line in fourth place with a time of 25:48.0.
Senior Austen Cave finished second twice for the Sea Gulls at both home meets, crossing the line on Sep. 2 with a time of 25:55.2 and finishing on Sep. 30 with a time of 25:29.6.
The Sea Gull women finished in the top three in three of their four meets, earning a team victory at the Don Cathcart Invitational on Sep. 30.
Senior Alyssa Santoro earned her first career win at the Don Cathcart Invitational on Sep. 30, finishing with a season-best time of 22:30.6, earning C2C Athlete of the Week honors.
The sophomore Madi Sisson has seen success this season as she was the first Sea Gull finisher on Sep. 2, ultimately finishing fifth while setting a new personal record of 22:31.1. Her record-setting run earned her C2C Athlete of the Week honors.
Sophomore Rachel Roberts crossed the line with a top-ten finish twice this season, finishing on Sep. 2 in 10th with a time of 23:14.8 and finished third on Sep. 30 with a personal-best time of 23:10.5.
Both Sea Gulls teams picked up bronze medals at the 2022 C2C Championships as the men's and women's teams finished third as the hosts.
For the men's team, Sam Bodmer earned Second-Team All-C2C recognition after finishing 12th with a personal record of 25:08.9. Jason Cave was also named Second-Team All-C2C after finishing 13th.
On the women's side, Alyssa Santoro earned First-Team All-C2C honors for the second straight year with a seventh-place finish and a time of 22:13.8, the fastest time by a Sea Gull in a conference championship in 16 years. Madi Sisson earned Second-Team All-C2C recognition as she crossed the line in 12th place.
UC Santa Cruz went back-to-back, once again sweeping the league titles in 2022. The Banana Slug men and women continued their success with both teams taking third at the NCAA West Regionals.
Saturday is the second time in three years that UC Santa Cruz will host the C2C Championships for cross country. The Banana Slugs are scheduled to host every other year.
The Sea Gulls have a combined 18 championships in cross country.
The men's team claims 10 championships, with the most recent one coming in 2014. The women's team holds eight championships with the last one coming in 2011.
On three occasions Salisbury swept the conference championships: 2006, 2008, and 2010.

Our teams have been running well this year and we are excited to travel out to California for the C2C Championships. I feel that we are prepared and read for the challenges of this meet.
