Game Recap: Field Hockey |

McDorman lifts No. 6 Field Hockey past No. 8 York (Pa.), 1-0

YORK, Pa. – A 39th-minute goal from Marli McDorman proved enough for the sixth-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team in a 1-0 win over the eighth-ranked York (Pa.) Spartans on Wednesday evening at Kinsley Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Spartans failed to capitalize on three penalty corners in the first quarter, with Addy O'Connell making a save on YCP's only shot of the period.
  • The Sea Gulls drew back-to-back penalty corners within the first two minutes of the second quarter, but Belle Fields got in front of a McKenna Horner attempt to keep the score level. SU managed three more shots in the period to no avail, and the game remained scoreless at the half.
  • Salisbury finally broke through in the third quarter as Marli McDorman took the ball just past midfield, swerved her way around two Spartan defenders, and ripped a backhand shot into the high right corner to put SU in control, 1-0, at the 6:11 mark.
  • York turned up the heat late in the third, drawing six penalty corners and taking four shots. O'Connell made saves on a pair, while one was blocked and Hannah Johnson recorded a defensive save on another to preserve the lead.
  • The Sea Gull defense remained stout in the fourth, blocking YCP's only shot of the final period to lock down the 1-0 victory.
