The Rundown

The fifth-seeded Salisbury University women's basketball team takes aim at its fifth conference championship at the 2023 Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Tournament in Fredericksburg, Va. The Sea Gulls open tournament play against the fourth-seeded Finlandia Lions on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Ron Rosner Arena on the campus of the University of Mary Washington.

  • Salisbury finished the regular season with a 7-18 record. The Sea Gulls went 2-5 in home games, 4-11 in true road games and 1-2 in neutral contests.
  • Six of of the Sea Gulls' seven wins on the year came by double-digit margins. SU averaged winning by 20.1 points in its victories on the season.
  • The Sea Gulls opened the year with a 77-36 win over Virginia Wesleyan on Nov. 9, following it up later that month with a 77-40 victory against Hollins.
  • Finlandia went 11-11 in the regular season and enters tournament play on a three-game winning streak.
  • The Lions played C2C foe Mount Mary twice in 2022-23, winning 80-48 at home on Jan. 21 and picking up a 103-62 road win on Feb. 10.
  • Junior guard Natalie Bartle was named both C2C Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year after averaging a league-leading 21.4 points per game, as well as 7.1 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.9 steals per contest.
  • This is the first-ever meeting between the Sea Gulls and Lions, who hail from Hancock on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
  • The winner of the SU-FU matchup will advance to face top-seeded Christopher Newport in the semifinals on Friday at 5 p.m., with the semifinal winners squaring off in the C2C Championship Game on Saturday at 7 p.m.
  • Salisbury is seeking its fifth conference championship and first since 2015. The Sea Gulls have advanced to the conference semifinals seven times under head coach Kelly Baskow, including each of the last three league tournaments.
