Track & Field closes book on Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Salisbury University track and field teams kept pace with some of the best programs in the nation on the third and final day of the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational, hosted by the City of Myrtle Beach on Saturday at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
 
The Sea Gull men finished tied 16th overall with 18 points, tied for third among NCAA Division III institutions with Shenandoah and trailing only 11th-place Methodist (36) and 14th-place Wooster (24). The Sea Gull women finished tied for 28th with one point.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Men
  • The 4x100-meter relay team of Jacob Shelton, Sherrod Frye, Ryan Kramer and Kai Smith gave the Sea Gulls their best event finish of the day, clocking in sixth in 43.10 seconds.
  • Ryan Temple, Hayden Myers, Graham Schultz and Tyson Bowie earned a top-10 finish in the 4x400-meter relay, crossing eighth in 3:28.19.
  • Mason Breeze qualified for the finals in the discus throw, ultimately finishing ninth with a distance of 43.59 meters (143-0). Logan Kelsch (42.77m, 140-4) also cracked the top 10 in the discus, while Jacob Reeves (39.89m, 130-10) finished 17th.
  • Austin Foote (4:39.17) grabbed a 16th-place finish in the seeded mile run, followed closely by Declan Burke (4:43.23) in 21st.
  • Frye placed 20th in the 200-meter dash in 22.70 seconds, tying a personal best.
Women
  • Maddie Rathmann took 20th in the 3,000-meter run in 11:42.48.
  • The 4x100-meter relay team of Karia Forvil, Marlyse Haack, Destinee Ekanem and Mia Hill finished 22nd overall in a time of 52.42 seconds.
  • Hill crossed 24th in the 200-meter dash in a personal-best 26.65 seconds.
  • Haack (5.10m, 16-8.75) and Hill (5.07m, 16-7.75) finished 28th and 30th, respectively, in the long jump.
UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls return to action in two weeks at the Towson Invitational on Saturday, April 1.
  • First events from Towson, Md., are slated for 11 a.m.
