Track & Field opens Towson Invitational with PR frenzy

TOWSON, Md. – The Salisbury University track and field teams saw several personal records fall on day one of the Towson Invitational on Friday afternoon at Johnny Unitas Stadium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Men
  • Kai Smith set a personal record in the 200-meter dash, crossing in third in 21.92 seconds. The mark moves Smith into the top 25 nationally in the event. Sherrod Fyre also put up a personal best in the 200 meters, taking 18th in 22.68 seconds.
  • Luis Smith established a new personal record in the shot put at 14.31 meters (46-11.5), good for fourth place. Mason Breeze finished 11th in the shot put (11.64m, 38-2.25), while Garrett Blasi (11.62m, 38-1.5) rolled in right behind in 12th.
  • Jason Cave finished sixth in the 5,000-meter run in 15:44.18, while Matt Grossi (16:04.28), Luke Petenbrink (16:08.68) and Sam Bodmer (16:21.92) finished 13th, 14th and 16th, respectively.
  • Zion Wamley (6.39m, 20-11.75), Frye (6.36m, 20-10.5) and Tyson Bowie (6.28m, 20-7.25) clocked in at 11th, 13th and 15th, respectively, in the long jump.
Women
  • The Sea Gulls saw a quintet of runners earn top-15 finishes in the 5,000-meter run. Alyssa Santoro (18:45.65) and Madi Sisson (19:30.40) each set personal records on the way to fourth- and seventh-place finishes. Allyson Wagner (20:06.85) cracked 10th place, followed by Rachel Roberts (20:08.53) in 11th and Maddie Rathmann (20:59.33) in 15th.
  • Lauren Knapp cleared a personal-best 2.95 meters (9-8) in the pole vault, finishing sixth.
  • Marlyse Haack slotted in 18th in the long jump with a personal-best 4.96 meters (16-3.25).
  • Karia Forvil grabbed 28th in the 200-meter dash in a personal-best 27.07 seconds.
  • Kailey Jarboe finished 29th in the shot put at 8.47 meters (27-9.5).
UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls will compete in the second day of the Towson Invitational on Saturday.
  • Saturday's first events at Unitas Stadium will begin at 10 a.m.
