Indoor Track & Field boosts times at South Region Qualifier

WINCHESTER, Va. – Select members of the Salisbury University track and field teams aimed to boost their bids for nationals at the South Region NCAA Final Qualifier, hosted by Shenandoah University on Saturday at the Kay & JJ Smith Track.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Men

Kai Smith and Jacob Shelton both set personal bests in the 200-meter dash. Smith crossed the finish line in 22.14 seconds for fourth place, while Shelton did it in 23.35 seconds for eighth.
Shelton narrowly missed qualifying for the finals in the 60-meter dash, finishing ninth in prelims at 7.10 seconds.
Declan Burke posted a 4:51.11 mark in the mile run, finishing third.
Matt Grossi (9:03.20) and Jason Cave (9:07.66) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run.
Hayden Myers (53.15 seconds) took fifth in the 400-meter run.
In the 4x400-meter relay, Thomas Niblock suffered an injury on the first leg of the race, resulting in a DNF for him and teammates Ryan Temple, Mike Heinz and Smith.

Women

Alyssa Santoro broke the tape in the 3,000-meter run in 10:58.19, while Madi Sisson finished second in 11:38.26.

UP NEXT

Those who qualify will represent the Sea Gulls at the 2023 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships next Friday and Saturday at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Ala.
