NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – The fourth-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team had five players named to the 2023 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Chesapeake All-Region teams.
Graduate attacker
Emma Skoglund, senior midfielder
Riley Hartman, senior goalkeeper
Kaitlyn Hunsinger and sophomore defender
Natalie Held earned All-Region First Team while junior defender
Madeline Davis reeled in All-Region Second Team.
Skoglund has led the Sea Gulls' attack all season long. She leads the offense in points (59) and goals (30) and ranks second on the team in assists with 20. Just the fourth Sea Gull to eclipse 200 points in her career, her 219 career points are currently ninth all-time in program history and her 169 career goals are tied for third all-time in program history.
Hartman played a major role in the Sea Gull midfield upon her return from injury in 2022. Hartman is currently third in the team in points (34) and third on the team in goals with 26. She also plays a key role in the team's draw and has collected the 34 draw controls on the season.
Hunsinger has had a breakout year in her senior season in the cage. She has totaled over 830 minutes in goal, tallied 113 saves and holds a 7.57 goals-against average over the course of the season.
Held was named the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Defensive Player of the Year for her role on the backline for the Sea Gulls. Tasked with guarding some of the best offensive players in the country, Held leads the team in caused turnovers (27) and has collected 24 ground balls. She also leads the team with 57 draw controls.
Davis had another successful season for the Sea Gull defense in 2023. She has started every game for Salisbury and sits third on the team in caused turnovers (20). Davis has also collected 24 ground balls.
This is the second IWLCA All-Region honor for Skoglund after she earned second-team honors in 2022. This is the first time Hartman, Hunsinger, Held and Davis landed on the All-Region teams.
The Sea Gulls are back in action on Saturday, May 20 when they take on No. 10 York in the NCAA Regional Semifinal, hosted by Washington & Lee. The opening draw is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Lexington, Va.
